Fragment No.2
After drawing a 5cm crop of Fatehpur Sikri I began wondering if I had chosen the best size option for this little new series. So I began on a quest to test out lots of options in order to decide on my favourite crop size going forward.
In order to make a fair comparison I decided to do the exact same view just a different size. This time 5.5cm. As you can see in the image below I went through plenty of mock ups before I landed on this as my perfect size.
It may seem like a tiny different 0.5cm but it actually makes a huge impact on the feel of the drawing in real life. I wanted to still have that delicate jewel like quality of being small and precious. But I wanted it to be slightly more descriptive.
This photo above shows the two drawings I had created already before making this new piece ‘Fragment II”. The larger drawing shows the facade of a building in Fatehpur Sikri India. The image below shows that building in real life.
I’m really pleased I pushed myself to experiment and find this new size as it will be my plan going forward to do more in this series at the exact same size.
