Original graphite drawing of a fragment from a facade in Fatehpur Sikri, India. I previously created a much larger, very detailed drawing of this structure and the scale of it was so overwhelming that I began exploring smaller crops from the same facade. I chose this fragment because it manages to hold so much within such a small section. I love the contrast between the fine detail and the deep black of the window opening, and the way it reveals both the elegant frieze and the repeating rhythm of the chevron tiles.
